One of my great passions is Disc golf as a photographer.
My story began with Disc golf 3 years ago. I was a great fan of ultimate frisbee before my son was born in 2013. A week before his birth I had a nasty accident where I ran into another opponent cutting my lip open getting 12 stiches. Never again will I play frisbee. Being a husband and father of two kids and struggling in my business was a tough one to chew. Depression can be a reality and hard on the rest of my family.
But with the Grace of God and with the help of my amazing wife I googled and found disc golf in 2018. A very unfamiliar sport in South Africa but huge in the USA . I wondered if there is anything like this in South Africa. Finally found a group of guys in Gauteng South Africa who I contacted to try it out. The bug bit hard!!! Disc golf gave me a look into a world of letting go and letting it fly.
Fast forward to 2021 Where I played in my 4th tournament in DG @ the 2021 South African Champs.
It was this tournament that would be the one I will remember. On hole 9 I threw an Ace (hole in one) at 62m off the tee. I went absolutely crazy. My wife smiling because she was next to me! At that moment it hit me of how grateful we must be for people in our lives! Whether it is family of friends. My wife and my family who always encourage me when I am in doubt. Grateful. It is not just about Disc golf. Disc golf for me is a means of realizing it. And I love it.
Rawmotive photography SA was there to capture the day.
