Family photography has been a hidden passion of mine for a few years. Being in the wedding industry most of the time in the last 15 years has shifted my feet in another direction. As a wedding photographer, I try breaking the mold of the posing method. Capturing families in a documentary fashion was the next challenge I had to overcome. It is not the same as the wedding environment. It's capturing the real-life relationships between parent and child. Families have a deep story to tell. Telling that story needs listening to understand and action to respond. It’s not telling my subject what to do but rather waiting for my subject to lead me. It's not about dressing right for the occasion. It's not about being ready for the photographer. It's about the everyday life of families who sharpen each other's character. I am done as a photographer with the normal setup of showing me your best. I want to be there to learn from the families I work with.
To the Olivier family. Your home is a place of warmth. I learned that spending time is a valuable element when families are together. The music in the background and smell of cupcakes in the kitchen made every moment special. Focusing on the small things like making a fire with Dad and baking with mom. Thank you for sharing a small part of your lives.
